Schall und Rauch

by Katrin Bretschneider

Martin Brinkmann AG in Bremen’s Woltmershausen district was one of the largest and most modern tobacco factories in Europe. Where thousands of people once worked, the Tabakquartier is now taking shape – a new neighbourhood for living, working and culture. Katrin Bretschneider, whose father himself worked at Brinkmann, brings this process of transformation to life in her audio performance ‘Schall und Rauch’. How can a place foster a sense of identity? Which perspectives do we choose to focus on? Between memory, reflections on the present and the creation of aspirations, a space in constant flux emerges.
